Decarburization depth

The decarburization depth is the distance from the surface of a workpiece to a boundary feature that characterizes the thickness of the decarburized layer. The boundary can be characterized by reference to a microstructural condition, hardness level, or the carbon content of the unaltered base material (see ISO 3887) or another specified carbon content.
